MartinJohn (MJ) Heubach was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1977 and raised across the Mississippi river in the
capitol city of St. Paul. He was very interested in painting and drawing at a very young age, so much that his school
teachers referred to him as their “resident artist”.

MJ has received many awards recognizing his artistic achievements upon graduation from St. Paul Central High.
He considered advancing his artistic education at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago,
but the desire to remain close to his family and friends landed him at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

For practical purposes he started his studies in graphic design with the presumption it would be the best option for
employment in the creative industry. After his sophomore year, the desire to draw and manipulate imagery with his
hands inspired him to become an Illustration major. The decision was the best of both worlds, allowing him to channel
his creativity while also gaining the experience needed for a career in commercial art.

During his Senior year, MJ focused his illustration efforts in the painting studio, working with Acrylic and Oil mediums.
The result was a body of work that was voted exceptional by faculty and selected to represent the school at its off
campus senior class exhibition.

After graduation in the year 2000, MJ started his commercial career illustrating and designing for small clients in
St. Paul, Minnesota. It was at this time that he became intrigued by the possibilities of high quality ink jet or “Giclee”
printing and he purchased his first photographic printer and began self-publishing his drawings and illustrations
to promote his artwork.

The artwork of MJ Heubach can now be found in corporate and private collections throughout the Twin Cities area.
